Researching your family history can be extremely exciting, frustrating, time consuming but nevertheless rewarding. Firstly you will need to speak to elderly relatives to glean as much information as possible. The last census published was 1921, therefore you need to try and get back to 1921 to start your research in earnest.
The Census was published in 1841, 1851, 1861, 1871, 1881, 1891, 1901 & 1921. The 1939 Register is also now available. Access to these records is available on numerous sites for a fee.

Births, Marriages and Deaths can be accessed free from www.freebmd.rootsweb.com
Early parish records are available on http://www.freereg.org.uk
Certificates can be obtained from The General Register Office (GRO) website www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates
